Well, another week is in the books when it comes to my senior project and I think I'm at full steam with everything at this point. It was a great experience interviewing Marion Giants Head Football Coach Randy Sehy. He talked fast but added great insight to his team, the other county teams, and what it is like to be more than a coach but a mentor to his players.
The aspect of my senior project that I want to focus on this week is "The Starting Lineup" segment that I work on each week. This is roughly a 5-minute segment of "The Windup" each week that highlights the big sports stories from the past week and previews a couple of things for the upcoming sports weekend. This is a chance for me to share some of my sports knowledge and a little bit, and I mean, a little bit, of my sports opinion. This segment also brings in a good friend of mine that is helping me out with the show. Jeremy Sharp is the WIWU-FM News Director this year and has a huge passion for sports. Dr. Perry recommended him back this past spring as someone to bring in and use him almost as a sports reporter type idea. Each week we meet sometime Thursday or Friday to brainstorm ideas, plan the segment, and record the entire thing in one take...hopefully. Each week Jeremy tells me he really enjoys it. Honestly, this is something that I would like to hand to him to do next year. I think this show is something the Fortress should continue to do and it can really make a bigger impact on the world of Grant County sports.
One of the biggest things I'm learning with this aspect is how to plan the segment. While I want the listener to have an unbiased show, Jeremy and I are still picking the topics to be put in the segment. I'm doing all I can with this segment to highlight more sports than football so people can be in the know about more things with football. The problem with that is in the fall, football dominates the sports world.
Hours Update:
Total Hours This Week: 11 hours
Total Hours This Semester: 49 hours (36% thru 4 weeks)
Remaining Hours This Semester: 86 hours
This was a pretty good week for the senior project. And I can tell you this much, I'm loving every minute of it.
