“The Windup:” Week 8 Interview Questions for Mississinewa’s Curt Funk
I. Last Week’s Game
a. Your team had a 21-6 lead at one point but Maconaquah never let up offensive and clawed back into it. How was the opponent able to do this when it seemed your team had control of the game?
b. Penalties were huge throughout this game. There was a roughing the kicker call against your team that let Maconaquah escape a 4th and a mile situation. Maconaquah committed an unsportmanlike conduct penalty and pass interference that led to a touchdown for your team. What can you attribute to why so many penalties occurred in the game?
c. What kind of impact does this win have on your team as you prepare to play the 8-2 Western Panthers tonight?
II. This Week’s Game
a. Let’s talk a little bit about this Western team – the same team that knocked you out of last year’s sectional playoffs. What’s the game plan to defeat the Panthers on their home turf?
b. After starting 7-0, your team loses two tough games to Eastbrook and then Madison-Grant. Some people believed that your team was headed down the wrong road. How did last week’s sectional win swing things back in the right direction for the Indians?
c. This week is also fall break for the students of Mississinewa High School. How has this impacted the team’s preparation and what have you done differently this week compared to others?
III. Other Grant County Teams
a. The Marion Giants are hosting a 10-0 Leo team that is ranked #4 in the IHSAA Class 4A poll for its sectional semifinal. Let’s put yourself in the shoes of coach Randy Sehy. As a 5-5 team, how would you prepare to host an undefeated team that is ranked highly in state?
b. The 7-3 Madison-Grant Argyles do not catch a break either as they are on the road against an undefeated Churubusco team ranked #6 in Class 2A. I looked back at Churubusco’s schedule and they played and defeated a class 4A school earlier in the year. In your opinion, how much does strength of schedule in the regular season (small schools playing big schools idea) affect how you play in the postseason?
c. I’m going to give you the airwaves for this question. As coach of the Mississinewa Indians, what would you like to say to the fans, family, and friends of the Mississinewa community for their support this season?
IV. NFL/College/National Football News
a. Week 2 of the Bowl Championship Series, also known as the BCS, standings was released earlier this week with LSU at #1, Alabama #2, and Oklahoma State #3. What’s your thoughts on this system and how it is used to determine who should play for the national championship.
b. Week 8 NFL Pick’em – Coach vs. Tim – 3 Top Games:
i. 4:05 p.m. Sunday – 5-2 Lions (lost 2 in a row) at 2-4 Broncos (Tim Tebow Comeback Kid) – Who do you think might win this one…the Lions or the Broncos?
1. I’m going to go with an upset special on this one and the Broncos. Matthew Stafford was a little banged up last week. Tim Tebow is a beast. Broncos win.
ii. 4:15 p.m. Sunday – 5-1 Patriots (Coming off Bye) at 5-2 Steelers (handled Cardinals last week) – Who ya got…the Patriots or the Steelers?
1. I’m going to go with the Steelers on this one primarily because of the game being in Pittsburgh. Big Ben is getting back to his usual form and the Steelers fans are crazy at Heinz field. Steelers win.
iii. 8:20 p.m. Sunday – 3-3 Cowboys (Demolished Rams last week) at 2-4 Eagles (coming off bye) – Who is getting the W…the Cowboys or Eagles?
1. I think with the extra week to prepare gives the Eagles the advantage. They start to pick up steam on their season and defeat the Cowboys this week.
