Now that we are in full swing of the semester, my senior project is in full swing as well. I'm finding a pattern for each week of things I need to do daily, racking up the hours, and producing a high quality product for Grant County sports.
One of the things that I'm working on each week that I want to highlight here is what I'm calling the "Fortress Sports Update." This is a 2-minute weekly feature that I record on Monday afternoons that updates listeners on the upcoming high school sporting events in the area. This is similar to the Fortress Featured Events segment we also update weekly highlighting the community events happening. This part of my senior project was actually something that Sam Weaver, last year's student general manager, and Dr. Perry, my adviser wanted me to do last year. I never came through with that but now I am. It doesn't take super long for me to do but now that it is in the rotation, it allows listeners to tune into the Fortress and continue to get local updates on events happening in the community.
I'm continuing to learn the discipline of time management this semester. Although I'm only taking 13 credit hours this semester, my classes are heavy on outside of class work. I can connect this to my professional career as well. Each day when I'm at the station I have to stay on track with the projects that need to get done. Yes, I can socialize or what not with employees every once in awhile throughout the day but I need to stay productive.
I could not be more thankful for my knowledge with Adobe Audition. This program is becoming my best friend as the semester continues as I write, record, edit, produce and everything else on this editing program. I also am glad that my summer internship allowed me to work with it frequently so I can keep my skills fresh.
The major difficulty this week was making contact with my interview guests. I'm learning the rules and skills of what I like to call "phone tag." I must remain persistent with my guests in trying to schedule an interview with them but not be rude and annoying to them as well. It's walking a very fine line in those things.
Hours Count:
This Week: 10 hours
Total for the Semester: 28 hours
Remaining Hours to Record: 107 hours
2 Weeks Done...many more to go...I'm remaining faithful to the semester that God has provided for me and trusting Him in all that I do.
