Interview Questions for Mississinewa's Curt Funk

The Mississinewa Indians are starting to make some noise this year as the team is undefeated through 5 weeks of Grant County High School Football.  Mississinewa's Coach Curt Funk took some time out of his schedule to speak with me (Tim) about the team's season and other high school football news.  Here's a look at the questions I am planning on asking him:

The Windup: Week 3 Interview Questions
I.                    Last Week’s Game
a.       Your team defeated Alexandria, 30-22 to improve to 5-0.  What does it feel like to have an undefeated team at this point in the season?
b.      On the first offensive play from scrimmage, your team fumbled the ball on your own 20-yard line.  And a handful of plays later, the Indians were down 7-0.  What was you telling your team after not exactly the best start to the game?
c.       The defense stepped up big allowing only 7 points for the majority of the game until 2 late touchdowns.  How was your defense able to handle an offense that scores over 30 points a game?
d.      Your team had another turnover later in the first half when driving down the field.  What was the message at halftime to get your team focused for the second half?
e.      Your team defeated Alexandria, 30-22 to improve to 5-0.  What does it feel like to have an undefeated team at this point in the season?
II.                  This Week’s Game
a.       Many of your games this season have been fairly close.  The Indians have won by an average of 16 points, which for an undefeated team could be considered a small margin.  How has your team been able to win these close games?
b.      You play a Blackford team this week that got demolished by Eastbrook last week.  What are some things you are focusing on for this week’s game?
c.       The Indians are tied with the Panthers and the Madison-Grant Argyles for the Central Indiana Conference lead at 3-0.  At basically the midpoint of the conference schedule, how much focus is your team putting on the conference race?
d.      I always like to ask this question with the coaches – what makes Mississinewa football stand out compared to other Grant County teams?
III.                Other Grant County Schools
a.       The other undefeated Grant County school right now is the Eastbrook Panthers at 5-0.  They play Elwood this week.  How impressed are you with the Panthers this season?
b.      CIC Co-Leader Madison-Grant is at home against Frankton for the team’s senior night.  How much impact does senior leadership have on a high school football team?
c.       Oak Hill goes on the road to play a much-improved Alexandria team. Your team has played both already this year.  What kind of game do you see this being?
IV.                Upcoming College Football Weekend
a.       Teams are jumping all over the place in the conference realignment shuffle.  There’s also been talks of 4-5 super conferences with over 16 teams.  What’s your thoughts on these schools trying to shuffle things up in the world of college football?
b.      #1 Oklahoma gave their head coach Bob Stoops a 7-year extension worth over 34 million dollars.  There’s also been talk of starting to play players.  How much do you believe money should be involved in college sports and why?
c.       #4 Boise State continues to be a top 10 school year end and year out but yet makes it’s home in Idaho.  How does Boise seem to be oh so good with yet Idaho not being a hot spot for recruiting like Ohio or Texas is?
V.                  Upcoming NFL Weekend
a.       Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo came back into the game on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers with 2 cracked ribs and led his team to the win.  As a coach, where do you believe the line is for a player being too hurt to play?
b.      Safety continues to be a high priority for the NFL and the league is making sure the players don’t forget with fines, penalties and other consequences.  What’s the state of safety in football in 2011?
c.       Coach vs. Tim – NFL Pick’em Week 3
