Summer Work/Prep for Semester

It's crazy to think that the semester is upon us but the summer is over.  What a sad day that is...BUT...I am excited for what this semester is going to bring for this senior project.

While I didn't spend a lot of time over the summer thinking about it, I did do some brainstorming and coming up with some segment ideas and other things.

Here is a list of some of the things I was thinking about:
1. Taking from my proposal and talks with Dr. Perry, what is the show clock going to look like?
2. How am I going to determine who is the guest each week?  Rotating schedule?  Fair chance for all schools?
3. Who is going to be the second host that comes in for part of the show each week?
4. How am I going to manage working on this show and my other show for the Fortress called "The Call?"
5. What music am I going to use? How much time do I need to spend each week to meet requirements?

After spending all kinds of time on this and looking at some other sports radio shows, I started to have an idea of what the show was going to look like.  It would start with a 5-minute opening section called "The Starting Lineup."  This segment would cover 4 or 5 local and national headline stories to catch listeners up on the week of sports.  Then the show would flow into the interview spotlight that would take up 15-20 minutes and be the primary meat of the show.

I made contact with Jeremy Sharp, an IWU student and this year's News Director for 94.3 the Fortress, and I proposed the show and his part of it and he was all in!  It turned into a good discussion of what we could do with the show and things we could cover, etc.

I determine that I would cover each school at least once and then go from there depending on schedules, success in state tournament, and other outside factors that I could not control.  As far as balancing time toward the two shows, I would just have to play it by ear each and every week.

After moving onto campus, I spent some time in studio finding music, making promo beds, intro music, Fortress Sports Update beds, etc.  A lot of time spent editing that first week.  I knew that once I got through the beginning of the editing, the rest would be very easy.

One of the big things I've learned from this summer and prep for the first show...is how much really goes into producing, editing, hosting, and all other caps I have to wear for this show.  There is a lot that I am going to have to update each week and I must be productive each day for me to stay ahead of the game and have a high quality show.  From a hour count for the summer and the days coming up to the first week of school, I would say I spent 10 hours of thinking, editing, creating, designing, wondering, hoping for this semester and what this should could be.  I want it to make an impact for listeners and get them an inside scoop into Grant County High School sports...and I am confident that I can do that.

Senior Project Hour Count: 10 hours
Hours Remaining: 125 hours

Be looking to this page throughout the semester as I give insights to how I'm handling the show, prep sheets, podcasts, and everything else related to "The Windup."  I'm confident you're going to love it!
