“The Windup:” Week 6 Interview Questions for Eastbrook High School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach Matt Hinds
I. Entire Season
a. We haven’t had a chance to focus in on the Eastbrook basketball program yet this season so let’s start way back at the beginning. You were heading into your 4th season at the helm and coming off your best season (9-13) last year. What were the thoughts you were trying to put in the player’s mind for this upcoming season and goals?
b. You started the season 2-3 but were able to get a win in your first conference game of the year against Frankton, 51-49. Describe the start of the season for the Panthers and how things were looking as you headed into the middle portion of the season.
c. Obviously, one of the biggest days in the boys basketball season is the Grant 4 Tournament in late December. The Panthers finished 3rd in last year’s tourney but come out and struggle against Oak Hill, who went on to win the tournament, and then lost to Madison-Grant by 5 in the consolation game. What was it like for your players on that day and the games your team played in?
II. Previous Couple of Games
a. After six straight double digits losses, the Panthers had two close losses to Elwood and Delta before last night’s game at Wabash. What caused the sudden change in your team’s performance when it seemed like every night Eastbrook was getting kicked out of the building?
b. The Panthers had a tough game against Wabash last night up at their place losing, 77-61. That pushes the current losing streak to 12 games. What happened in last night’s game that kept the Panthers from getting the W?
c. 10 of the Panthers 16 games the team has failed to scored 50 points. What has been causing struggles for your team offensively this season?
d. Obviously, being on a 12-game losing streak isn’t fun. Describe some of the bright spots for your team this season and what the future holds for the Eastbrook Panthers basketball program.
III. Next Games
a. Friday Eastbrook plays its last conference game of the season against Mississinewa in Gas City. What’s the game plan for that game in trying to get the Panthers off the snide?
b. After Friday’s game at Mississinewa, your team will have two more before the regular season ends. Also, the sectional pairings are to be released on Sunday. What are your thoughts about the Panthers’ chances in sectional play or the goals for the team?
IV. Other Grant County Schools
a. Alexandria, Madison-Grant, Oak Hill, and Frankton are in a log jam at the top of the Central Indiana Conference standings. The Panthers have played all those teams this season. How would you describe the conference this year and what this log jam at the top shows of the quality of teams?
b. Before coaching the Eastbrook boys program, you coached the Eastbrook girls program for 4 years amassing a 63-26 record and a sectional title in 2008. What is it like to coach a girls team for so long and then switch to the boys side?
c. I’m going to put you on the spot here…which has been more difficult in coaching…girls teams or boys teams?
d. Also, a lot of people discredit women’s basketball as it is not as entertaining or great basketball compared to that of men’s basketball. Here’s your platform…step up and defend women’s basketball for Grant County.
